The 2022 Monaco Yacht Show

Superyachts, super sailboats and super luxury! The most important boat show for the luxury yacht market, the Monaco Yacht Show wows a little more every year.

From 27 September to 1 October, the most luxurious and technologically advanced ship makers and interior decor companies will exhibit the best of the best. And each year, the Monaco Yacht Show organisers make the show bigger and better.

This year, they are full steam ahead with innovation in alternative energy, unveiling the new ‘Sustainability Hub.’ This new exhibition area will welcome companies that specialise in technology aimed at reducing superyachts’ environmental footprint.

The Sustainability Hub is an incubator for companies that provide innovative or tried-and-true eco-friendly solutions, as well as for budding start-ups working on sustainable alternatives that fit in seamlessly with the yachting world. The exhibition will be located on 200m² in Darse Sud, the tent dedicated to nautical equipment and technology. The Monaco Yacht Show has announced its collaboration with the Water Revolution Foundation in order to select companies that are eligible for the Sustainability Hub.

We are excited about the launch of “Ephyra”, the very first green hydrogen nautical ecosystem. Built by HYNOVA, who launched the first electro-hydrogen pleasure craft "The New Era" in 2020 and paved the way for 'responsible and virtuous yachting,' this unveiling is sure to be amazing. You can find Bon Vivant at the Monaco Yacht Club on Saturday for their invitation-only event!

Make sure to check out the all-electric Sunreef 80 Eco catamaran as well, details below under Sailing yachts.

Highlighting Innovation

Monaco Yacht Show

Last year’s Innovation hub was hit and this year, they have merged it with the yacht design centre to make sure that custom projects are thought of with the latest in technology, perhaps even completely carbon neutral power systems.

New sponsorship with Richard Mille

After many years with Ulysse Nardin, the Monaco Yacht Show has announced its collaboration with watchmaker Richard Mille, the show’s new official sponsor in a multi-year partnership.

This great new partnership with one of the world’s most avant-garde luxury watchmaking brands marks the start of a new chapter in the Monaco Yacht Show’s adventures. Created in 2001 by the brand’s eponymous founder, Richard Mille revolutionised luxury watchmaking with an innovative modern marketing strategy focused on the “ultra-luxury” market. The Swiss brand’s philosophy is perfectly aligned with the MYS’ ambition to cater for a new generation of yachting clients, whose epicurean lifestyle has redefined the rules of superyachting, aka the true quintessence of ultra-luxury. The partnership between the Monaco Yacht Show and Richard Mille thereby embodies the - pretty much self-evident - fusion between these two worlds and their many shared values: luxury watchmaking and yachting are synonymous with a quest for excellence and technological performance, a passion for creativity and high craftsmanship, a love for innovative design and a desire to create tailor-made experiences.

Everyone just wants to see the Superyachts

Okay, there is innovation and interiors and fancy watches, but let’s be honest, everyone wants to see the big yachts. Without a doubt, MYS is the place for that. Whether you are curious, wanting to test the waters, so to say, or if you have a large check burning a hole in your pocket, there are yachts for all tastes.

Private owners wishing to change their yachts - or to purchase a new one - charterers, or new pleasure-seeking visitors tempted by a first superyacht experience, all will be “seduced” by the varied collection of yachts on display this year in the Dockside Area: vessels starting from 22 metres in length and going, going, going…

Sailing Yachts

For 2022, MYS has expanded the fleet of large sailing yachts on display, from multi-awarded sailing yachts, classic schooners or sloops and high-performance and modern-designed sailing vessels. Amongst the 10 units on exhibit at the Sailing Yacht Area, 4 new launches will be showcased in Monaco: ClubSwan 80 (27.7m) and Swan 98 (31.05m) by the Finnish builder Nautor’s Swan, Sorvind (34.59m) by Southern Wind shipyard and the eco-friendly Sunreef 80 Eco (24m) catamaran.

The first two pictures above are of the WING 100, the latest ground-breaking concept from Royal Huisman. Describing it as an entirely new megayacht category, made together with Dykstra Naval Architects and Mark Whiteley Design, this 100m sailboat focuses on the highest standards of environmental sustainability with proven technology for reliability.

The innovative, aluminum-hulled WING 100 is a true sailing yacht – not a heavy sail assisted motor yacht – but it can be easily and securely handled and quickly deployed without 'fuss or drama.' Conceived not only to appeal to sailing yacht owners, but to provide the perfect cross-over for motor yacht owners who want to minimise their environmental footprint by reducing the weight of their yacht, but retain the highest standards of amenity and comfort.

Pictured last, the all-electric sailing catamaran Sunreef 80 Eco will be available to visit. It is a fully-autonomous craft using revolutionary green tech for fuel-free cruising in total silence and luxury. Designed and built to navigate in complete harmony with the elements, it is a pioneer in the world of responsible yachting. The idea behind the Sunreef 80 Eco is to create and promote a new philosophy of responsible yachting. The shipyard’s in-house conceptual and engineering teams have made every effort possible to achieve this, and we are happy to tell you about it!

The new 'Adventure Area'

Ahh... the literal playground of the MYS! From jet-skis and paddle boards to custom hyper cars and helicopters! No "toy" is too big or too fast. Open of the side of one of these bad boys and you'll find an array of speed boats and diving gear. While there, check out the new personal, silent submarine... for when you need to go Bond style while holidaying in Sardinia.

This year, MYS has transformed the long-standing "Car Deck, Tenders & Toys" area to a broader, more experienced-based "Adventure Area," boasting a vast range of day-trip and sports tenders, luxury and off-road vehicles, water toys, high-tech gadgets, mini-helicopters and tailor-made programmes to explore the planet’s most remote destinations.

The 'Adventure Area' combines the two themes in a single location, boasting a myriad of luxury vehicles, tenders and water toys for visitors to discover.

This extended exhibition for all adventure and leisure activities reflects the MYS’ continued ambition to bring visitors the finest yachting experience. Today, charter clients want to drive all-terrain vehicles to the North Pole, go on underwater excursions, take tender rides off the coast of secluded islands, enjoy tailor-made tours of historical and cultural sites in coastal destinations, discover animal species – while respecting their ecosystems – and even take part in scientific field trips. And so... MYS doesn't disappoint!

--> The 'Adventure Area' spans across two sites at Monaco’s Port Hercule: Quai Antoine Ier, and secondly, as in previous editions, around twenty tenders will be moored at Quai Jarlan.

1st up - The Yacht Summit

Monaco Yacht Show

MYS kicks off on Wednesday, 27 September at the Yacht Club de Monaco with the The Yacht Summit, where interested buyers with a yacht project (purchase, charter or construction) will receive practical advice and unbiased insights from a panel of renowned industry experts: designers, brokers, builders or financial advisors.

Started in 2021, the concept of leaving the first day only to owners and prospective clients was a bit of a shock to many of the exhibitors, but in the end they found it better to have a day where they could give quality time to perspective clients. The event has become a tailor-made meeting between industry professionals and pre-qualified clients brought by the MYS organisers before meeting the next day on board the yachts exhibited at the show.

The rest of the week is star-studded with press conferences to unveil new yachts, new innovation and new ways to blow copious amounts of money on trivial pursuits. All in good fun, eh?
